  How much of an affect did the organization have on you deciding to become one of
  Jehovah's Witnesses or staying within the confines of the organization?
  Did the artists rendition of paradise earth pull you into the "truth"? Did fear of dying
  at Armageddon keep you in the organization longer?

  The Emotions after Leaving the Organization

  Did you happen to go through emotional withdrawal after leaving the organization?
  Speaking on my own behalf, it started with sadness, anger, then depression and
  now it is transforming into a state of happiness.

  What about you? Can you share what your frame of mind was like before and after
  being involved with the organization?

  It seems that the majority of the individuals on this board have done there
  research concerning the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society fairly well. The
  gathering of information from multiple sources is very impressive and that
  needs to be mentioned.

  Old Watchtower Journals

  There are certain individuals on this board who I would like to directly question
  regarding their research. For example:

  • Just exactly where do you get your sources of information? Are they reliable?
  • Do you still have old Watchtower literature?
  • Would you be willing to help someone with research regarding the history
    of the Watchtower Society?

  Any advice or responses to expand upon this research would be greatly appreciated.
  If you can offer help, please do so.

  i stopped going to meetings at age 19 or 20. my brother had been df'd.

  my sister and her new bethalite husband had left the organization labeled as apostates, and my single mom followed suit.

  i was pretty much raised by the congregation, though i lived with my isolated mother.

  Till this day I feel very ashamed to admit that I too was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. The reason being is that individuals who know me consider me to be an intelligent person and for me to recall being associated wholesouled within in a cult, gets me nauseous.

  there within the organization"?

  The religious holidays

  The Watchtower was correct regarding the history of the popular
  holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine's Day.
  However, it leads us to the next question, what else were
  they correct about?

  Objective outlook

  These questions that are raised within this discussion thread are
  not designed to provoke or arouse any negative sentiments. We
  are all fully aware of what the Watchtower Corporation is all about;
  these are just questions that have crossed my mind from time to
  time.

  leads me to ask important questions. How well do you get along with your family members since
  you no longer attend meetings?

  Invisible Barriers

  Does the subject of going back to the "truth" ever come up again? Even, now and
  then? Do you feel comfortable around your own relations even though they are
  part of the organization and you no longer are?

  Can you kindly share what your individual experiences are regarding this issue.
  There is no need to get to personal, just whatever makes you feel comfortable.

  Having spent a number of years in the organization and the opportunity to
  marry in the "truth" there was this reluctance to do so. Why? having been
  around the sisters in the organization they were not the strong willed
  independent type that was desirable in my eyes.

  A Product of There Environment

  The Watchtower, in my opinion, had something to do with creating "sub-
  missive sister susie". It was something that repelled me and that was
  unattractive according to my way of thinking. In all fairness, they probably
  did not like "brother geek" or "brother drone" either.

  Point of Decision

  Recently, I have been having second thoughts regarding dating a former
  Jehovah's Witness. Perhaps, they are not what they once were? Would
  it be a good idea to become involved with one or would it be a terrible
  mistake? Would there be the chance of receiving "damaged goods"?

  Reaching out

  Hopefully, this thread did not offend anyone on this discussion board
  and if there is a chance that it did, I would like to apologize. However, can
  someone point me in the right direction on meeting a former Jehovah's Witness?

  Will apostates burn in Gehenna???

  i seem to recall the wts teaching this many years ago.

  the idea was that "apostacy" was the ultimate, unforgiveable sin, because it was.

  tantamount to "sinning against the holy spirit".....does anyone recall hearing this idea, that "apostates", along with our buddy satan, will suffer.
